The other day during our cycling near Lisi lake in Tbilisi we discovered a few and interesting places, I have already wrapped a blog post about Tbilisi Hippodrome we discovered by accident.
By accident we discovered a Tbilisi Dog Shelter as well.
When cycling from Tbilisi Hippodrome back to Lisi lake, my eyes cached an interesting scene - in the middle of nowhere people were doing some exercises. So we decided to approach and the closer we get, the louder started a dog barking. And here it was - A Tbilisi Dog Shelter.
I first heard of this organization at last Christmas Charity Fair held at Sheraton Hotel. I even subscirbed on some volunteer list by giving my e-mail, but never get a response. Ok, things are as things are.
Quickly we were handled two dogs to take a walk with them in nearby meadows, so we did.
It was lame, funny and social responsible at once. First we must admit problems of stray pets in Tbilisi and Georgia - so we must be social responsible, as Antoine de Saint-Exupéry would say -
we are responsible for those we have tamed
It was lame because of we were not prepared to walk a dog at all (remember we were just cycling). It was funny - because it's fun to do lame and social responsible things together, right?

The longer version - It's Dutch financed project, according to information found on a website with Dutch ending (.nl):
Welcome to DOG Dog Organization Georgia
DOG is a foundation that collects dogs in Georgia. There are about 25,000 stray dogs alone in the capital, causing nuisance through hunger and disease and are a danger to traffic.
Because of this they are treated badly, hit or scavenged by the government.
DOG has set itself the goal of improving the lives of these dogs by:
- - Shelter and medical care
- - Sterilization campaigns
- - Information campaigns
- - Consultation with authorities
- - Adoption program (in Georgia)
