DIY Open Wooden Compost Bin

  • Choosing the right location for a compost bin is crucial. In our case, an old foundation on the other side of the house provided an ideal spot. This decision, based on future plans and convenience, ensures that the compost bin doesn't become an obstacle down the line.

  • On the evening of May 1st, 2017, I embarked on building an open wooden compost bin using leftover materials from roof works. The decision to repurpose these materials showcases resourcefulness and sustainability in creating a practical garden construction.

  • Armed with basic tools like an electric saw, measurement tape, pencil, and a level, the construction process was surprisingly straightforward. Unlike the complexities of leveling bearing beams for a roof, creating a compost bin from wooden boards proved to be a simpler yet rewarding endeavor. The end result? A functional compost bin ready to handle fallen leaves and trimmed grass, contributing to our rural property's sustainability.

A compost bin is a must-have garden construction at our rural property - fallen leaves and trimmed grass mostly go here. It was on early May 1st, 2017 evening I decided to build an open wooden compost bin from materials we left over from roof works

It was agreed to install a compost bin on the other side of the house, as when planning a place for a compost bin, it should be chosen carefully, so as not to be an obstacle in the future.

As there is already an old foundation here, and we are not planning to do with them anything for the next couple of years, it was agreed this is a good place for a compost bin. Now it was a matter of taking down the laths from the loft, an electric saw, some measurement tape, a pencil, and a level.

Definitely much easier than leveling bearing beams for the roof construction.
