Farewell to Winter (Sunrise at Jūrmala beach)
| | 5 seen
It was in the early April morning, I couldn't sleep, and decided to grab a camera and catch a lovely sunrise at the nearby Jūrmala beach. I remembered the times we use to live in Batumi, Georgia and went out for a walk just shortly before sunrise. Jūrmala ain't no Batumi, but still, can I get some mood out of it?
After this morning's short photo walk I decided to start my second 365 days photo challenge, that said - Farewell to Winter.
Jūrmala beach before sunrise
As they say, to make an interesting landscape, you should include a strong foreground. I took what I got this morning.
Reflections on water
Another interesting photo element - reflections.
Melting ice
Strong foreground, sunrise, hdr and water reflections. This photo goes as DAY 1 for my second 365 days photo challenge
Top Hotels in Torremolinos when Traveling with Kids (Family Friendly)
| Hotel reviews | 41 seen
Torremolinos is a municipality in Andalusia, southern Spain, west of Málaga. A poor fishing village before the growth in tourism began in the late 1950s, Torremolinos was the first of the Costa del Sol resorts to be developed and is still the most popular in the region.
We have stayed at Torremolinos hotels twice (Hotel Parasol Garden Review in Torremolinos, Spain and Hotel Zen Airport Torremolinos, Spain) during our latest trip to the region of Andalucia.
Now, when planning our next travels to Spain I decided to look again on hotel offers in Spain, this time looking to travel with a little baby girl. It's interesting to observe that family friendly hotels are in fact more expensive than hotels for couples.
In today's article - top 10 family friendly hotels in Spain's Torremolinos.

March 2018 Dividend Income Report - $52.88
| Investments | 10 seen
March is finally over. The last March was really uncomfortable and in fact, it was the first month from my short investor experience when my total net worth actually decreased. Many things happened to my portfolio last month, in total, I lost about $3,000 in value for crypto investments. One company from the Nasdaq Baltics announced its intentions leaving the exchange.
When writing these dividend income reports, I usually love to write how I enjoy doing nothing much and still get a nice passive income at the end of the month. Now, in the case of the last March, this is not the case. And I'm glad March is finally over. That said, welcome to the eleventh (#11) dividend income report, covering earnings I've made from dividend-paying stocks, peer to peer lending (both fiat and cryptocurrencies).
For March, there was no dividend paying stock in my portfolio and the lions share for the earnings in March comes from the Mintos.com peer to peer lending operations.
Both individuals and entities can invest through Mintos. Individual investors must be at least 18 years old, have a bank account in the European Union or third countries currently considered to have AML/CFT systems equivalent to the EU, and have their identity successfully verified by Mintos. At the moment, US citizens or taxpayers cannot register as investors at Mintos.

Interest income in March 2018
From investments in peer to peer lending marketplace Mintos.com and from cryptocurrency lending on Poloniex.com I got following income last month:
- Mintos.com: EUR 42.98
- Poloniex.com: EUR 1.02
Total: EUR 44.00 / USD 52.88
Year over year growth rate for dividend income
The YoY growth rate for my dividend income in March is more than 500%. A year ago I just started my way to the financial freedom and laid first bricks with Mintos.com peer to peer lending.
March 2017
March 2018
Change
Mintos

€34.28
Poloniex
€0.00
€1.02
€1.02
Total
€8.70
€44.00
€35.30
As a matter of fact, a year ago, I felt more enthusiastic with my humble EUR 8.70 earnings than I feel now with EUR 44 earnings. A year ago I just started to roll this dividend ball.
Now, a year later I have greatly increased my investments on Mintos.com peer to peer lending marketplace and had some humble earning from crypto lendings on Poloniex.com. Unfortunately, I don't hold any dividend paying stock in March (there is no dividend paying stocks in Nasdaq Baltics for March).
Also, I believe the last March was the lowest in terms of dividend income for this year, for the upcoming months I can see $100, $140 and even $200 dividends in a single month.
Monthly income to the date
My portfolio is now more than one year old. As I was just starting out last year, the first months of the year didn't generate me much. Just starting with March, April and May the journey started to roll.
The cumulative earnings for 2018 are $216.72 which is about 18.06% of my goal for 2018 ($1200).
Monthly Income chart as of March 2018
On the average, I should pull about $109.25 each month for the next 9 months to reach my $1200 goal for 2018. Right now it seems I'm on the right track, as there are already a few months in 2018 I'm looking on close to $150/mo and in fact will try to crack $200/mo milestone this year.
Dividend Income Radar March 2018
About investments and return 2018
Since the begging of the year, I've additionally invested $4,024.96 what is about 37.62% of the total $10,700.18 planned investments in 2018. Also, I've reached 1.65% in value for my planned 1 million dollar savings account by 2045. That's a drop by -0.13% if compared to the month of February,
On the average, I should invest about $741.69/mo until the end of the year to reach my goals.
YTD value for the entire portfolio at the end of March is down by - 18.43% but still positive since the begging in 2017 with a positive 2.45 % value growth.
Investment portfolio structure March 2018
March was really bad for my long-term crypto holdings, I lost about $3,000 in value for cryptos in March. The total drop in value for cryptos at the end of March was -59.73% YTD but still positive since July 2017 +22.93%
I really hope the bear trend is over and for the rest of the year I'm looking on a bull trend.
As you can see from the graph above cryptos (16.4%) now is the third largest position in the portfolio after stocks (51.7%), and Mintos.com peer to peer lending (28.6%).
I'm lacking cash reserves (0.3%) in the portfolio, to change that starting March 2018 I decided to run a 52-week money saving challenge and looking to increase cash reserves to about 5% from the portfolio value by the end of the challenge.
Also, I started to build up an emergency starter fund with $1,000 and hope to reach this target by the end of the year. By the end of March, I've reached about 22% of this goal. My current emergency starter fund is in value about 1.31% of the net worth. From the downside, I should add - that with current emergency fund I could sustain the comfort of our family living just for three days. With reaching $1,000 it could sustain about 2 weeks. Yikes. But better have one.
Goals forecasts for March 2019
This is my favorite part of the reports - trying to forecast/set goals for the next year. Despite I made more than 500% growth this year I'm more humble when looking on next year. It would be cool to reach $80/mo a year after. From today's perspective - hard, but doable. There are a few scenarios I'm considering now - one it would ask to boost my deposit on Mintos by about EUR 3,000 or I should start adding US dividend-paying stocks to the portfolio. I'm looking on both now.
Mintos.com Peer to Peer Lending Review 2018
| Peer to Peer Lending | 15 seen
I first heard about Mintos.com peer to peer lending marketplace back in 2016, starting with 2017 I decided to invest some chunk of money on this platform.
Now in 2018, Mintos.com is the top performing passive income revenue stream for me.
I keep investing also in stocks, mutual funds, and cryptocurrencies.
At the end of Q1 2018, mintos.com took the second largest position (after stocks) in my portfolio with 28.6% of my funds invested in Mintos.com marketplace.
Investment portfolio structure at the end of Q1 2018
The overall impact on the total portfolio for Mintos has decreased from all time height at 100% in January 2017 to little less than 30% at the end of Q1 2018. And I'm glad. The reason is simple:
- My investment portfolio started just in 2017
- I have diversified it in Stocks, mutual fund, crypto, cash and peer to peer lending
A diversified portfolio helps. Never put all eggs in one basket, as they say.
Both individuals and entities can invest through Mintos. About interest earned on mintos.com 2017-2018
What I really like about Mintos.com - it's more than 10% yield (my interest rates for EUR 12.68% and for GEL 16.89%)
Total interest received from Mintos.com peer to peer lending platform (January 2017 - March 2018)
During the past 15 months in total, I've received interest of EUR 441.05 (EUR 311.42 in 2017 and EUR 129.63 for the Q1 2018)
At the start of 2018, I decided to withdraw all interest earned on Mintos.com peer to peer marketplace during 2017 to finance a new purchases on Nasdaq Baltics Stock exchange To make withdrawal happen I had to stop Auto Invest function, and in total it took me 21 days to reach EUR 311.42 level. After reaching what I just pressed magical Withdrawal button and got it transferred to my bank account in one working day.
Mintos.com contributes regularly to my dividend income with little over than EUR 40/mo, and I'm looking to increase interest earned here to about EUR 50, during 2018.
Withdrawing money and paying taxes
At the start of 2018 I decided to withdraw all interest earned in 2017 on Mintos.com peer to peer marketplace and finance new purchases on Nasdaq Baltics Stock exchange To make withdrawal happen I had to stop Auto Invest function, and in total it took me 21 days to reach EUR 311.42 level. After reaching what I just pressed magical Withdrawal button and got it transferred to my bank account in one working day. Great, now I know I can not only deposit money but also withdraw.

3 Day Tour in Georgia (Tbilisi, Mtskheta, Kazbegi & Lopota Lake Resort)
| Travel guides | 18 seen
Discover Georgia just in 3 days, taste delicious Georgian cuisine and get acquainted with Georgian traditions and historical heritage.
DAY 1 Tbilisi - Mtskheta
Airport pick up, Accommodation to the hotel
Sights to visit: Holy Trinity Cathedral, Metekhi Church, Europe Square, Narikala Fortress, Sulfur Baths, Leghvtakhevi Waterfall
Georgia’s large heritage underlies in its religious dogmas and holy monuments that are scattered all over the country paying tribute to centuries-old customs. Holy Trinity Cathedral (Sameba) differs from other churches and cathedrals as it is one of the youngest spiritual masterpieces in Georgia. This is the highest church in Georgia (101 meters high). Holy attributes including stones from Mount Zion and Jordan River and ground from Jerusalem were buried in the foundation of the Cathedral. Dome is covered with gold leaf that shines proudly even in dull weather. When entering the church you feel both museum and eclectic atmospheres under the dome. All the icons have small notes with the names of the saints. You can find a huge handwritten bible near the altar – this is a hard work of contemporary artists.
Another church that is not far from Sameba Cathedral is Metekhi Church that has a perplexed and mysterious history. It was built in the 12th century in the midst of Muslim conquests. It is situated in the so-called Europe Square, in the heart of the Old City. Peacefulness and tranquility overflow the place. You can see the Mtkvari River from the cliff or sit in the small garden and watch the city form a small elevation. Metekhi Church is known for its equestrian monument of Vakhtang Gorgasali – the founder of Tbilisi.
The walks about Europe Square are beloved both by tourists and locals. Lots of entertaining places including restaurants, art-cafes, café-theatres, and just typical Georgian houses could be found in its surroundings.
Narikala Fortress is in the close reach of the Europe Square. A narrow and very steep road goes up to the fortress that used to be a defensive citadel in 17th-18th centuries. Climbing all over the place will give you a perfect viewpoint of the city. The sense of antiquity is in the air particles. It is impossible not to feel yourself a nomad or a wayfarer while sitting on the ancient stones of the Narikala Fortress
A long flight of stone stairs will lead you to another pearl of the Old City – Sulfur Baths and the neighboring Leghvtakhevi Waterfall. It is even said that coming to Tbilisi and not visiting Sulfur Baths equals to going to Paris and not climbing the Eifel Tower. The area of Sulfur Baths imprints immediately in the memory with its circle domes that look like pink watermelons. Once a big part of families in Tbilisi used to have access to this spa water in their own houses but now the Old City is mostly known for its hot springs. Water is and exhaustion.
After passing the area of Sulfur Baths the Leghtakhevi Waterfall is right in 3 minutes to walk. The place of grandeur resembles a canyon with high grey rocks and a narrow river. What really is outstanding – you can find houses at the top of those rocks!
Arrival to Mtskheta
Sights to visit: Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, Jvari Monastery
(Lunch or Dinner as desired)
Mtskheta: Going to Mtskheta is exciting. It used to be a capital of Georgia once and now it is just a quiet rural town in the outskirts of Tbilisi. Svetitskoveli Cathedral is like an ancient museum under the sky with lots of tombstones. The history of this place goes back to the 5th century and it is claimed to be the very first church to be built on the territory of Georgia.
Jvari Monastery or the Church of the Cross can be seen at the mountaintop. The monastery is not abundant with murals but the beautiful landscape opens from the small veranda where bodies of two big rivers – Aragvi and Mtkvari merge and create a picture of unforgettable beauty.
DAY 2 Kazbegi
Departure at 9:00
Sights to visit: Jinvali water reservoir, Ananuri Fortress, Gudauri “People’s Friendship” mountain viewpoint, Gergeti Holy Thrinity Church
Jinvali Water Reservoir is on the way to Gudauri ski resort. Ananuri Fortress is an interesting landmark built in 16th century designed for the protection of the surrounding area. You can climb the fortress and look over the Jinvali Reservoir. Also there is an unnaturally narrow dark cellar on the territory of the fortress that leads you into a tiny inner tire.
The next destination is ‘People’s Friendship’ mountain view. It is a mosaic panel erected by Zurab Tsereteli during Soviet times. It is built on the height of 2384 meters. This panel was a sign of friendship with Russia. The view from the mountaintop overwhelms even the calmest hearts as the green mountains and dense fog create a natural masterpiece. Photos taken and flavor of fresh air breathed in there will be a perfect reminiscence.
Gergeti Holy Thrinity Church is a place for real anchorites. It is placed on the high mountain in Kazbegi. The car way disappears in the thick forest. It is possible to reach the top on foot but it means you will have to cross the mountain and climb its foot. Extraordinary bass-reliefs are all around the church and make it look outstanding at the height of 2170 meters. The place seems to be covered in a fog all year long and has its microclimate with light drizzling rain.
(Lunch or Dinner as desired)
Return to Tbilisi
DAY 3 Kakheti
Departure at 9:00
Sights to visit: Sighnaghi, Lopota Resort (overnight stay)
Signaghi is known as the ‘City of Love’ or ‘Georgian San-Marino’. It was restored about 10 years ago so that it even became unrecognizable for the native Georgians. Hospitality and charm of the city strike you from the first seconds. The city throughout the flow of history was not intruded by the conquerors and that is why it is really in a good shape. ‘Love city’ with its ornate and narrow streets is already attraction itself. Sighaghi is known for St. Nino monastery named after the saint who brought Christianity to Georgia. Sunny city of Signaghi will strike you with the abundance of wine and tasty food. It is a real paradise for people who prefer hot weather to rainy days.
Lopota Resort was one of the first luxury hotels on Kakheti territory. Service is on the highest level and equals to European grand hotel services. In hot weather, it is an island of hidden paradise with a big artificial lake and huge swimming pools. The rooms are decorated in a classical style and guests can degust wine on the balcony with the lake view. Golf, horse-riding, fishing, football – these are all the kinds of engagements available for the guests in Lopota.

Entering Negative Value For Ethereum Investment - Crypto Bear Market 2018
| Crypto | 10 seen
The cryptocurrency bear market which has started in 2018, has finally hit my humble cryptocurrency portfolio and have vanished all the huge gains I made at the end of 2017. Ethereum (from my portfolio) has been hit the most.
Since the begging with 2018, I have lost about $3,000 virtual money - January and March have hit portfolio the most. It's not that I wouldn't be aware that cryptos are volatile, in fact, from my short crypto investor experience (joined the game in July 2017) I have observed a few ups and downs.
Back in 2017, after just 2 weeks I lost about 50%, soon I regained what has been lost and even got a sweet 340% value growth by the end of 2017. Here is how I could describe crypto in short - Denial, Anger, Depression and Acceptance. Right now I believe we are in the Depression Zone.
Here are few articles about the negative experience:
- Cryptocurrency volatility lost -54.42% in just two weeks
- Bitcoin Price Increases Altcoin Market Bleeding
- Cryptocurrencies are Volatile - Here is How I Lost $1,000 in Value in a couple of days
It was around October 2017 (shortly before massive pump) I started to feel uncomfortable with a massive crypto value gains
- Why Bitcoin Price at $7,174.50 ain't no fun, But I'm still buying it?
Around New Year I was even enjoying euphoria and predicted that bitcoin price could reach $30,000 by the end of 2018, and was looking for Ethereum to reach $2,000 by the end of the year:
- Could Bitcoin Price Reach $30,000 By The End Of 2018?
Now with bitcoin price set at $7,177 and ethereum at $401, these predictions right now look over positive (but you never know, as in the crypto World things can change fast)
Ethereum Investment Chart (Invested/Value)
This is how my dollar cost averaging investment in Ethereum looks like since July 2017. For the past 8 months, I've invested EUR 470 in Ethereum (buying once in a month, usually at the start of month). The total value for my ethereum holdings now stands at EUR 461.97. I've lost EUR 8.03 (not counting in commission fees, which stand at EUR 18.94 for ethereum)
Bitcoin investment chart
It's interesting to observe that not all altcoins mandatory follow in the footsteps of bitcoin. In the above chart, you can see that while ethereum in dropping since January, bitcoin, on the other hand, regained some value in February and continues a drop in March.
If in the case of ethereum I've already entered negative value area, then bitcoin still is with a positive +28% (since July 2017) sign.
Now, let's see how my total crypto portfolio (bitcoin, ethereum, litcoin, bitcoin cash, ripple, and siacoin) looks now
Crypto investment chart
The total value for my entire crypto portfolio is still with a positive +22% grow

This was one of the most interesting and quality films I've watched lately. The story is about Graf Zeppelin flight around the world in 1929. The route is following New York - Friedrichshafen - Moscow (didn't stop here) - Tokyo - Los Angeles - New York.
The story is told through the letters and diaries of Lady Grace Drummond-Hay
In 1929, for the first time in history, a Graf Zeppelin circumnavigated the globe. Beneath the enormous airship hung a gondola to accommodate the lucky passengers and crew for the duration of the 21-day voyage, among them the young journalist Lady Grace Drummond-Hay, reporting for the Hearst media empire. Based upon her letters and diaries and told exclusively through archival and newsreel film from the time, this film relives the incredible voyage.
As a crew of forty kept the zeppelin in the air, Lady Grace feasted her eyes on the world's major cities, white alpine peaks, oceans, and swamps, and fell in love with a married man. The rare archival footage gives glimpses of day-to-day life in a zeppelin gondola, Grace listening to one of her fellow passengers playing the accordion, the repair of a tear in the cloth shell during the flight, the sleeping cabins and lounge, and the splendid views from the windows. The film offers a fascinating look into the world of the roaring twenties which would soon be gone forever.
For me, it was interesting to learn more about the crew, as Lady Grace mentions some Soviet professor Karklin. As Karklin sounds Latvian to me, I decided to learn more. Unfortunately, there is little information about this Soviet guy, just a brief mention that he was a representative of the Soviet government. As in the film, Karklin is referenced just as a professor, we don't have a clue what is his full name. By doing a quick Google search I did find some information, and probably, just probably the Karklin from the film is Karklin Jan Janovich (Карклин Ян Янович (Иван Иванович)) born in 1895 Courland governate (modern-day Latvia)
From the article Карклин Ян Янович + 02.10.1938 we can learn that Karklins was repressed and sentenced to death by Stalin's order in 1938 (The Great Purge), but following paragraphs from Karklins biography leads me to think that he could be the Soviet professor on Graff Zeppelin in 1929 (Rough Google Translate)
In 1924 he graduated from the VAK at the Military Academy of the Red Army. In October of that year he was sent to study at the Higher School of Pilots and Pilot-Observers, which he graduated in 1925, having been appointed to the post of chief of staff of the 6th separate reconnaissance squadron. Since December 1925 - Chief of Staff of the 8th separate reconnaissance air squadron. Then (until October 1927) he worked as the chief of staff of the 30th Air Squadron. From October 1927 he was the commander of the 40th air squadron. Member of the fighting on the Chinese - Eastern Railway in 1929
Now, from the following Passengers and Crew of Graf Zeppelin’s Round the World Flight of 1929 records, we can learn that professor Karklin actually left the ship in Tokyo in August 1929. Anyhow, more investigation is needed this time.
About Lady Grace
Grace Marguerite, Lady Hay Drummond-Hay (née Lethbridge, 12 September 1895 – 12 February 1946) was a British journalist, who was the first woman to travel around the world by air (in a zeppelin). Although she was not an aviator herself at first, she contributed to the glamour of aviation and general knowledge of it, by writing articles about her aerial adventures for US newspapers in the late 1920s and early 1930s.
Number of Passengers served in Georgian Airports (2010-2017)
| Airports | 12 seen
Civil aviation is gaining the momentum in Georgia. At the end of 2017 there were in total five airports located in Georgia. Tbilisi International Airport, Kutaisi David the Builder International Airport, Batumi International Airport, Mestia Queen Tamara Airport and recently constructed Ambrolauri airport.
According to the Civil Aviation Agency, International airports in Georgia have served more than 4 million passengers in 2017, which is 43.4% more than in 2016.
High growth was recorded in all three international airports of the country.
Statistics about passengers served in all Georgian airports (2010-2017)
As a frequent air traveler I have used two of Georgian airports very often, Tbilisi airport and Kutaisi airport, I have been at Batumi airport but never have flown from there and I haven't yet ever been to Mestia airport or Ambrolauri, thus I once almost booked a flight from Tbilisi to Mestia.
Affordable 5 Day Tour in Georgia (Tbilisi, Gudauri, Kazbegi & Sighnaghi)
| Travel guides | 13 seen
Discover the Eastern part of Georgia in 5 days. Enjoy the distinctive architecture, get acquainted with Georgian traditions, historical heritage, and taste delicious Georgian cuisine.
After flight you might be exhausted so it is better not to go far from Tbilisi. Summers in Georgia may be unpredictable but even warm drizzling rain is pleasant so there is nothing to be afraid of. Right after you arrive at hotel and have some rest we can go outside and visit some of the most outstanding fleshpots of Tbilisi according to you your preferences. It is possible to have a walk in Rustaveli Avenue (the main street) or peripheral streets as well. Tbilisi is known for the abundance of its art-cafes and unprecedented delicious cuisine so get ready for a small gastronomic tour on the very first day of arrival.
Holy Trinity Cathedral – it is one of the youngest but the most popular churches in whole Georgia. Situated in one of the historically oldest parts of the cities cathedral can be seen almost from all the districts. Its gold leaf dome shines brightly in any weather. Church leads you on a spiritual tour introducing beautiful handwritten bible and numerous icons of the saints.
Metekhi Church – a very recognizable place due to the equestrian monument of Vakhtang Gorgasali – the founder of the city. This image is imprinted on many T-shirts and even Georgian money. It may have even become symbol of Tbilisi. The church itself is old and bears a long history of Muslim conquests though nowadays it is a quiet place where you can have a rest in the small garden looking over at the Mtkvari River.
Europe Square – the heart of Old Town. Whenever you pass by it is impossible not to hear music and cheerful laughter no matter the daytime. Lots of restaurants are situated in the square as well as Shardeni Street with its mixture of Georgian hospitality and middle-eastern coloring.
Narikala Fortress – its construction dates back to 17th century and despite the sanguinary battles taking place in the area fortress has remained in its grandeur and steadiness. A very steep road leads to huge middle-age-like doors and shows a church on the territory of Narikala Fortress. You can see a big bell at the wall and little steps adjacent to the wall leading to the higher layer of the fortress. The view from its top is panoramic and makes you feel special – you are standing right on the stones that used to be a battlefield of Georgians and their invaders!
Sulphur Baths – another landmark which associates with relaxation and enervation. Sulphur baths offer unforgettable experience in the hot springs where you can also ask for traditional Georgian services like having an after-bath procedure with ‘meqise’ – a person who conducts a massage-like manipulation by clapping your back with a small whisk. Also according to the legend Tbilisi got its name thanks to these hot springs – Tbilisi means ‘warm place’.
Leghvtakhevi Waterfall – it is rather a newly discovered place which was renovated a couple of years ago but has already conquered the hearts of the tourists by moderate humidity and sounds of bustling waterfall.
Ananuri Fortress – this place somehow resembles architecture of Narikala Fortress but its parts have better remained with all the cellars and towers. This fortress again represents Georgia’s ancient culture.
Jhinvali water reservoir – is right at the foot of Ananuri Fortress and the picturesque view lets you forget about the daily worries. This place is really nice for making memorable photos.
Gudauri “People’s Friendship” mountain view point – is an exceptional view that lets you contemplate the beauty of Georgian mountains. You will see a big soviet mosaic panel there that has gained a big popularity among tourists and that might be one of the reasons why this soviet time’s ‘echo’ is still standing at the top of the mountain. You can take interesting pictures here as well.
Gergeti Holy Trinity Church – this place requires special attention as it is situated really high in the mountains. Of course it is possible to reach the church not only by car but on foot as well but the idea that it is situated at the height of 2170 meters makes any mind anxious. Gergeti Church is a remarkable landmark where you can get a broad view of the Caucasus Mountains covered with mist no matter the time of the year. The beauty of the place will be on your mind for a long time.
Sighnaghi – city in the eastern part of Georgia, ‘City of Love’, ‘Region of Wine’, “Georgina San Marino’ – these are the nicknames for the small but very extravagant city of Signaghi. Despite of being recently restored there are many historic places to visit. One of them is Bodbe monastery known as the burial place of the St. Nino – the pilgrim who brought Christianity to Georgia. You can rest here from big cities and slowly dissolve in the narrow sunny streets.
Lopota Resort (overnight stay) – this place has gained great popularity and is claimed to be the first large-scope Georgian resort. Lopota is paradise without any exaggeration. It is hidden in the shade and greenery. Artificial lake makes place more humid and once entering this place you would like to stay here as long as possible. Apart from resting in the peacefulness of Lopota you have chance to test yourself in horse-riding and golf. Degustation of wine is always open on the veranda.
In the morning you will be served at Lopota Resort with wonderful breakfast. Having spent some more time in the Georgian paradise you will have to pack your bags and get ready for departure as time to leave will slowly approach. By the time you come back to Tbilisi you can choose the place where to go or what to do before going to airport. It is possible to pick an interesting restaurant or find any culinary master-classes. In the evening we will take you to the airport.

Strange, how it works - It was on a lazy Saturday afternoon when I finally decided to buy a Russian literature's classic - War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy. While reading this book I decided to launch a new topic series on the blog - Bookshelf, keeping notes and sharing books I've read.
While browsing Amazon's store online accidentally I found this great learning guide - Learn to Read Georgian in 5 Days by Irakli Aleksidze. The price for Kindle Editon was just $3.99 and after reading a free preview on Amazon I thought - hmm, it's tempting to learn Georgian Script in 5 days.

Learning to read a language with a foreign alphabet can be an intimidating challenge. Even before you can start to study the vocabulary and grammar, you must first decipher this strange new script.
While living in Georgia for already seven years, in fact, I have never tried to learn neither the alphabet or language.Sure I can speak some Georgian (mostly Restaurant), but my word count is limited and I knew just a few letters from Georgian Script. The book Learn to Read Georgian in 5 Days - promised to kickstart my Georgian reading knowledge.
As I already had some knowledge both of Georgian and Georgian script, with help of this book I was able to learn and memorize all Georgian alphabet in less than in one day. Amazing.
Learn to Read Georgian in 5 Days teaches each letter of the Georgian alphabet in a systematic way while providing enough practice along the way to ensure the student learns the entire alphabet.
In addition to the alphabet, this course teaches more than 150 real Georgian words that were carefully selected to be of maximum benefit to beginning language students. These are the words that you need right away.

5 Day Tour In Georgia (Kutaisi & Svaneti)
| Travel guides | 23 seen
Arriving to Georgia, through Kutaisi by Wizzair? Try crafted an individual 5-day tour reaching the most beautiful landmarks in and around Kutaisi + extending the trip to the region of Svaneti by visiting Mestia and Ushguli
- Package tour includes 4 nights accommodation at 3-star hotels (upgrade to 4 star or 5 star possible), driver, airport transfers door to door, English speaking guide
- Does not include international airfare, travel insurance, entrance fees to museums
- Cultural and historical rich Georgia discovery tour in and around Kutaisi and region of Svaneti
- Visit the landmarks of Svaneti - Mestia, and Ushguli
Kutaisi is the second-largest city in Georgia. Arrival will not be less exciting than all the following excursions. It would be really tough to have this city without an airport that has become the vital artery of the flights made to Georgia.
In the last decade, much attention had been paid to the renovation of the city altogether with its cultural monuments. It is totally worth visiting this historic city, though it is not as big as the capital – Tbilisi.
Day 1: Arrival at Kutaisi airport, transfer to hotel, Kutaisi or Tsqaltubo. Departure to Martvili, Okatsi canyon, Kincha Waterfall, Chateu Chikhovani.
Time to go to Martvili Canyon! Those who ones went there claim that the atmosphere resembles the prehistoric days. It is hard to appease the heart-beat because you are waiting for a dinosaur to run out of the thick forest. This is a perfect spot for meditation. You can hear the bird trills and feel the process of merging with wilderness. Some evidence that proves the signs of the prehistoric life were found at the territory of the canyon and even the footsteps of the first human were recorded guess where? Yes, it is all about Martvili Canyon in Western Georgia.
Day 2: Promotheus cave, Sataplia cave, overnight in Kutaisi
Get ready for adventures in the Kumistavi Cave that is also known as the Prometheus Cave. The cave got the name of Prometheus after the Greek myth of Prometheus and the eagle that was gnawing Prometheus liver, supposedly somewhere in that cave. It is one of the biggest registered caves in Georgia and only one-tenth of the territory is open for the tourists. You may find underground rivers and lakes. Boat tour in the subterranean part of Georgia can make the journey more fascinating. Don’t get afraid if you see myriads of bats flying in the cave. They won’t harm you because they fly very high under the ceiling.
Walking tour (1600 meters) will take about one hour. You will walk past stalactites and stalagmites, illuminated with colorful led bulbs. The journey will be memorable for sure after absorbing the mysterious atmosphere of the cave. By the way, you will hear classical music everywhere in the cave and this accompaniment makes the journey even more pleasant.
After having finished with the Prometheus Cave time to move forward and visit the Sataplia Cave. In Georgian ‘Sataplia’ means the place where you can find honey. This tourist attraction could be one of the most peculiar places to visit in Georgia as long as you can find relict trees and even the footprints of the dinosaurs. Dinosaur-lovers will especially like the place.
There is no grass in the forests because the forest is too thick for the sun rays to reach the ground. Lots of household items of the prehistoric people can be found in the cave’s territory. One of the most visited places in Sataplia is the stalagmite in the shape of the heart. Couples often take pictures there. Another spot adored by people is the transparent observation deck that lets you contemplate the beauty of Kutaisi locality.
Day 3: Departure to Zugdidi, Svaneti, Mestia, Ushguli
Time to pack the luggage once more and head to the following destination, the heart of snowy mountains – Svaneti.
Kutaisi is situated in Western Georgia so other western and even northern spots are in close reach. The 5-hour-trip will save the adventures on the spiky mountains of Svaneti and make you rest a little bit during the traveling. As the trip may be exhausting after two days of roaming in the depths of Kutaisi locality, it is better not to rush to other tourist attractions before the departure and concentrate on the journey.
Day 4: Day in Mestia
The contrast is striking after leaving the city of Kutaisi and intruding the rural type of life in Mestia, Svaneti. You can see cows and dogs almost everywhere. Some locals are often surprised to see tourists taking pictures of the domestic cattle. During the summer season, you can take a horse tour and roam through the mountains of Svaneti, meet other tourists and just contemplate the beauty of Svanetian region. They say that only after discovering Svaneti you have really got the chance to know Georgia.
In order to embrace the whole beauty of that mountainous region, it is necessary to pay the Ethnography and History Museum. Artifacts will help you to imagine the life of Saneti (10th-13th centuries). One of the most unusual and exotic things to see for a foreigner are Svanetian towers, the characteristic beauty of Svaneti. You can even buy small figures of those towers in the souvenir shops. Still be aware that prices are doubled up there compared to Tbilisi prices.
Day 5: Transfer to Kutaisi airport
Time to go back to Kutaisi and leave the last glance at the high mountains and peculiar sights of Mestia. No worries! Georgia is not an easy song to forget so the best option would be to start thinking about the next trip to the stunning Saqartvelo!

Kemeri National Park in Latvia is special for its great biological diversity, the unique Kemeri Bog, mineral waters and therapeutic mud found here.
It was on a lazy Sunday afternoon we decided to visit Kemeri National Park, as we had no idea what exactly to look for, we decided to make a stop at first "look-a-like" place, so we ended at Forest House, located some 45km from nations capital Riga.
I was equipped with my Canon DSRL camera and in a good mood to make some panoramic photos here:
Forest House in Kemeri National Park
Rough translation from Latvian about Forest House (Meža māja)
The Nature Education Center "Meža māja" is located on the banks of the Vēršupīte, surrounded by the wet woods in Ķemeri National Park. The historic building was originally built as an entertainment center and restaurant, but later it was home to a children's sanatorium. Now the Forest House is managed by the Nature Protection Board and, with the establishment of the Nature Education Center, offers nature education activities.
