Entering Negative Value For Ethereum Investment - Crypto Bear Market 2018

| Crypto | 11 seen

The cryptocurrency bear market which has started in 2018, has finally hit my humble cryptocurrency portfolio and have vanished all the huge gains I made at the end of 2017. Ethereum (from my portfolio) has been hit the most.

Since the begging with 2018, I have lost about $3,000 virtual money - January and March have hit portfolio the most. It's not that I wouldn't be aware that cryptos are volatile, in fact, from my short crypto investor experience (joined the game in July 2017) I have observed a few ups and downs.

Back in 2017, after just 2 weeks I lost about 50%, soon I regained what has been lost and even got a sweet 340% value growth by the end of 2017. Here is how I could describe crypto in short - Denial, Anger, Depression and Acceptance. Right now I believe we are in the Depression Zone.

Here are few articles about the negative experience:

  • Cryptocurrency volatility lost -54.42% in just two weeks
  • Bitcoin Price Increases Altcoin Market Bleeding
  • Cryptocurrencies are Volatile - Here is How I Lost $1,000 in Value in a couple of days

A tranquil evening, remote road and beautiful sunset. I was prepared, backpack with the gear was in the backseat, and here you go - tranquil mood, lots of clouds and my beloved HDR photography technique.

In a couple of weeks (days) it will start blooming, but for now, there is even some snow leftover in the ditches.  Shot in Latvia, at the end of March 2018.

Documentary Around the World by Graf Zeppelin (1929 footage)

| Documentaries | 51 seen

Documentary Around the World by Zeppelin is a film by Dutch director Ditteke Mensink made first aired on BBC Four in 2010.

This was one of the most interesting and quality films I've watched lately. The story is about Graf Zeppelin flight around the world in 1929. The route is following  New York - Friedrichshafen - Moscow (didn't stop here) - Tokyo - Los Angeles - New York.

The story is told through the letters and diaries of Lady Grace Drummond-Hay

In 1929, for the first time in history, a Graf Zeppelin circumnavigated the globe. Beneath the enormous airship hung a gondola to accommodate the lucky passengers and crew for the duration of the 21-day voyage, among them the young journalist Lady Grace Drummond-Hay, reporting for the Hearst media empire. Based upon her letters and diaries and told exclusively through archival and newsreel film from the time, this film relives the incredible voyage.

As a crew of forty kept the zeppelin in the air, Lady Grace feasted her eyes on the world's major cities, white alpine peaks, oceans, and swamps, and fell in love with a married man. The rare archival footage gives…

Number of Passengers served in Georgian Airports (2010-2017)

| Airports | 12 seen

Civil aviation is gaining the momentum in  Georgia. At the end of 2017 there were in total five airports located in Georgia. Tbilisi International Airport, Kutaisi David the Builder International Airport, Batumi International Airport, Mestia Queen Tamara Airport and recently constructed Ambrolauri airport.

According to the Civil Aviation Agency, International airports in Georgia have served more than 4 million passengers in 2017, which is 43.4% more than in 2016.

High growth was recorded in all three international airports of the country.

Statistics about passengers served in all Georgian airports (2010-2017)

As a frequent air traveler I have used two of Georgian airports very often,  Tbilisi airport and Kutaisi airport, I have been at Batumi airport but never have flown from there and I haven't yet ever been to Mestia airport or Ambrolauri, thus I once almost booked a flight from Tbilisi to Mestia.

Strange, how it works - It was on a lazy Saturday afternoon when I finally decided to buy a Russian literature's classic - War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy. While reading this book I decided to launch a new topic series on the blog - Bookshelf, keeping notes and sharing books I've read.

While browsing Amazon's store online accidentally I found this great learning guide - Learn to Read Georgian in 5 Days by Irakli Aleksidze. The price for Kindle Editon was just $3.99 and after reading a free preview on Amazon I thought - hmm, it's tempting to learn Georgian Script in 5 days.

| Tourism objects | 12 seen

Kemeri National Park in Latvia is special for its great biological diversity, the unique Kemeri Bog, mineral waters and therapeutic mud found here.

It was on a lazy Sunday afternoon we decided to visit Kemeri National Park, as we had no idea what exactly to look for, we decided to make a stop at first "look-a-like" place, so we ended at Forest House, located some 45km from nations capital Riga.

I was equipped with my Canon DSRL camera and in a good mood to make some panoramic photos here:

Rough translation from Latvian about Forest House (Meža māja)

The Nature Education Center "Meža māja" is located on the banks of the Vēršupīte, surrounded by the wet woods in Ķemeri National Park. The historic building was originally built as an entertainment center and restaurant, but later it was home to a children's sanatorium. Now the Forest House is managed by the Nature Protection Board and, with the establishment of the Nature Education Center, offers nature education activities.

Average Salary in European Union 2018

| Macroeconomics | 781 seen

For the fifth year in a row, I'm publishing my humble observations on average salary changes in the European Union. In this article, I've compared both gross and net average salary for 2018.

Update: Average Monthly Salary in European Union 2020

As in the case with minimum wages in the European Union 2018 article, for this year's average salary article, I was able to pull data both for gross and net minimum wage values across the European Union.

I wouldn't call below written scientific research, as most of the data in this article are taken from Wikipedia's article List of European countries by average wage. To make it more interesting I've added a column for tax -  by having both values (gross and net) I did a simple calculation to see approximate tax rates in member states.

All calculations are done using Google Spreadsheets. Data provided below might not be 100% accurate but they should give an overall insight on average salary levels across European Union member countries.

Countries are ranked by average net salary in 2018

For previous year rankings…

Google AdWords/AdSense To Ban Cryptocurrency Related Ads

| Blogging | 42 seen

In June 2018, Google will update the Financial services policy to restrict the advertisement of Contracts for Difference, rolling spot forex, and financial spread betting. In addition, ads for the following will no longer be allowed to serve - Binary options and synonymous products, cryptocurrencies and related content (including but not limited to initial coin offerings, cryptocurrency exchanges, cryptocurrency wallets, and cryptocurrency trading advice)

Now, this update doesn't come as a surprise to me, and in fact, I was already waiting for it to happen sooner or later after Facebook announced to block all cryptocurrency related ads.

As a blogger covering crypto related stuff this new update will affect my blog directly, the thing I'm afraid of - the lost organic search traffic for crypto-related content.

To be on the safe side, starting today I have decided to limit future articles about crypto investments featured on the blog.

Nasdaq Baltic Stock Market Biggest Gainers / Losers 2017

| Investments | 13 seen

There was a 71 company listed on the Nasdaq Baltic stock market in 2017. In today's article, I decided to make a quick look on the biggest gainers and losers for a whole 2017.

Baltic equities are listed on Nasdaq Baltics in 3 listings - Main List, Baltic secondary listing, and Firth North. As of writing this article the total market capitalization for companies listed under one of the three listings was EUR 7 billion and 261 million. 7 billion huh? Think that's huge? Think twice - the total market capitalization for cryptocurrencies right now is at 294 billion Eur, and we are in the bears market. The total market capitalization for Nasdaq Baltic's represents about 2.5% of the total market capitalization of cryptocurrencies.

Think I'm comparing apples to oranges? you are right, just for the correct illustration, the neighboring stock exchanges at Moscow have 515 billion market capitalization, Stockholm stock exchange EUR 1,02 trillion, Warsaw EUR 321 billion. Not to speak about London stock exchange with EUR 6.82 trillion or New York stock exchange with  EUR 17.31 trillion.

Cryptocurrencies are Volatile - Here is How I Lost $1,000 in Value in a couple of days

| Crypto | 13 seen

Wow, what a bearish ride for the past couple of days in the cryptocurrency world. Bitcoin and all the other major altcoins have lost value on average by 25% in the past couple of days. From trading BTC at $11,615 on March 5th down to $8,606 on March 9th.

Long story short - I've been investing in cryptos since the second part of 2017. Before actually investing in cryptocurrencies I developed the so-called dollar cost averaging plan, and decided to buy the major cryptocurrencies once in the month no matter the price. Dollar cost averaging helps to exclude emotional decisions. My plan is to acquire more coins until the end of 2020. That's roughly 2 years and 9 months to go.

Currently, I own following cryptocurrencies - bitcoin, ethereum, litcoin, ripple, bitcoin cash and siacoin. Bitcoin cash and Siacoin I've added to my crypto portfolio with the start of 2018. Here is how my dollar cost averaging chart looks now:

Despite a massive crash with 25% wiped in value in matters of a couple of days, I'm still in a positive side, with about +76% value growth,…
