Embedded thumbnail for 12 years in Georgia

Georgia, a land of diverse cultures, mouth-watering cuisine, and breathtaking landscapes, has been my home for the past twelve years. Time flies when you're having fun, and I can say without a doubt that every year has been nothing short of amazing. From the bustling city streets to the tranquil countryside, Georgia has never ceased to amaze me.

The first weekend at the start of April 2023 was no exception. I decided to document my adventures in cinematic mode, using my new iPhone 14 plus and DJI Mavic.

In this short documentary -lunch with the team of Caucasus Translations, a local translation agency, where I had the pleasure of meeting some of the brightest minds in the industry.

Parking on Chavchavadze Avenue with our almost brand new Jeep Renegade car, while waiting for our kiddo from QSI school.

Technical inspection while sipping a latte at Mc Donalds.

With a stop at Chateau Ateni, a beautiful winery nestled in the rolling hills of the Georgian countryside. The winery has been producing some of Georgia's finest wines. I took a tour of the vineyard and learned about the traditional Georgian winemaking process.

The highlight of the video was spending quality time with my family and Frogallina, a pet frog from QSI. Frogallina even made an appearance in the video, and I have to say, she stole the show.

As I reflect on my twelve years in Georgia, I am filled with gratitude for the experiences I've had and the people I've met. From the vibrant culture to the breathtaking landscapes, Georgia has left an indelible mark on my heart. I look forward to many more adventures in this incredible country and can't wait to see what the future holds. Cheers to twelve brilliant years!

March 2023 Stock & Crypto Portfolio Update

| Investments | 58 seen

At the end of March 2023, I was managing 3 small investment portfolios. The total value of all portfolios combined was USD 6,466.07 / EUR 5,948.35.

One of my short-term goals is to grow portfolios to $10,000. To get there it is planned to deposit additional capital, plus selling options premium.

Portfolio #1

It was a good month for portfolio #1. It grew by + EUR 2,426.37 and stood at EUR 4,379.47 ($4,760.70) at the end of the month. For the truth's sake, we deposited an additional EUR 2,200 in it to have margin collateral for our options trades.

The main goal for this portfolio at the moment is to grow it to 100 fully covered Amazon shares, so we can sell covered calls on Amazon.

At the end of March, we were holding just 19 shares of Amazon. 81 to go. The average buy price per Amazon share is $105.02

Additionally, we are selling high probability options trades (delta under 0.1) collecting options premium to boost the returns for the portfolio.

In March we were selling options with AMZN, INTC, BAC, and WFC stocks.

In the end, we managed to collect +198.77 USD from expired options trades. That would give about a 4.17% yield from the portfolio's value.

Portfolio #2

Newest and smallest portfolio so far.

Opened at the start of February by opening a new account with Interactive Brokers and depositing EUR 50/mo. Buying TLRY stock. Currently holding 54 TLRY with an average buy price $3.05.

46 shares to go before will start selling covered calls on it.

The total value of the portfolio: EUR 132.37 / USD 143.78

Crypto Portfolio #3

Our third portfolio is a crypto portfolio, where I trade options on the Deribit trading platform with Ethereum.

At the end of March total value of this portfolio was $1,561.59 (EUR 1,436.51)

in March we took a -0.2193 ETH loss, which comes from badly managed options trades from the previous months.

Overall it was a good month with most gains coming from the first portfolio, and no surprise of that as it also is the largest one.

Centrally located on Republic Square, Marriott Armenia Hotel Yerevan offers soundproofed rooms with classic-style décor and fine international cuisine. A bar and an outdoor summer terrace are also available.

We booked this hotel for about 3 day stay at mid-February 2023 paying about EUR 420.

Our booking included access to the executive lounge, which included free meals and drinks. Despite being rated as just a 4-star hotel, this is by far the most recommended stay in Yerevan. And I have stayed in a quite a few great hotels in Yerevan.

We got a king size bed and a seperate bed for our 4 year old kid. Our room was located just next to the exectuive lounge, free meals and drinks whole day.

It just cannot get located more centrally. As we traveled here to open an Yerevan office and conduct face to face interviews, it was great for business stay.

Behind its grand façade, the Marriott Armenia Hotel Yerevan provides spacious rooms and suites with flat-screen TV, mini-bar and seating area. Guests enjoy views of Mount Ararat or Republic Square.

It was a plesant surpirse having this executive lounge with meals for free. Last tim I enjoyed executive lounge was at Batumi Hilton hotel.

Spring Break in Latvia

Embedded thumbnail for Spring Break in Latvia

If you're looking for a unique and unforgettable Spring Break experience, Latvia might just be the perfect destination for you. With its rich history, breathtaking landscapes, and lively cities, Latvia offers a one-of-a-kind vacation that will leave you with memories to last a lifetime.

One of the highlights of any trip to Latvia is exploring the western part of the country, which is known for its stunning natural scenery and outdoor activities. Whether you're interested in hiking, fishing, or simply taking in the beautiful views, the western region of Latvia has plenty to offer.

One adventure you won't want to miss is screwing in a screw pile. This may sound like an odd activity, but it's actually a popular way to build houses and other structures in Latvia. It involves using a large screw to anchor a foundation in the ground, and it's surprisingly fun to do.

Of course, not every adventure goes according to plan, and you might find yourself stuck in mud up to your ears at some point. But even when things don't go as expected, Latvia has a way of turning mishaps into memorable experiences.

And speaking of memorable experiences, one thing you absolutely have to try while in Latvia is potato pancakes with salmon. This traditional dish is a true delicacy, and it's the perfect way to sample the country's unique cuisine.

After dinner, why not relax with a glass of Armenian cognac and a piece of Toblerone? This unlikely combination is actually quite popular in Latvia, and it's the perfect way to cap off a long day of adventure.

Of course, no trip to Latvia would be complete without experiencing the local culture, and one of the best ways to do that is by listening in on some of the most typical Latvian dialogues. From the humorous to the heartfelt, these conversations offer a glimpse into the country's rich history and unique personality.

And if you're looking to really unwind, a visit to a spa in Jurmala is the perfect way to do it. This picturesque seaside town is known for its luxurious spas, and it's the perfect place to relax and recharge before continuing your Latvian adventure.

All of these experiences add up to one thing: the good life in Latvia. There's something special about this country, whether you're exploring the western part or taking in the sights and sounds of Riga. So why not make Latvia your next Spring Break destination? You won't regret it.

Mansard Waterfall Rumbas Guest House in Kuldīga

| Hotel reviews | 12 seen

Located in Kuldīga, Rumbas has accommodations with city views, free WiFi, and free private parking. The property has river and garden views, plus is a 5-minute walk from the Art gallery of Artists Residence.

The property is located next to the Venta Rapid and the old brick bridge of Kuldīga

We booked a nice 3-bedroom apartment for a 3-night stay at the end of March 2023 and paid about EUR 390. we just needed a nice place to stay while I was figuring out how to install ground screws and build the frame for our Summer cottage in some 30km distance from Kuldīga.

In total, we had 3 bedrooms, 1 master, and two guest bedrooms, with a large shared kitchen with nice views towards the Old Brick bridge of Kuldīga.

Brick bridge in Kuldīga over the river of Venta according to some sources is the longest of its kind bridge in Europe.

Apartments are located on the second floor.

The apartment is equipped with 3 bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen with a fridge and an oven, and 1 bathroom with a shower and free toiletries. Towels and bed linen are available in the apartment.

By the way, The Venta rapid forms the widest waterfall in Europe

Overall, great and tranquil stay among two of the most famous tourist attractions of Kuldīga. Highly recommend!

The Cost-Saving Way to Build a Frame House in Latvia: Our DIY Project (Screw Foundation Piles)

| Frame House | 185 seen

Welcome to another interesting blog topic series - Frame house, where I'm going to share almost in real-time our endeavors of building a small 60m2 1-storey holiday house in Latvia.

I decided to build it myself as much as I can, hiring only local people to help with lifting, digging and similar work.

The labor cost and services can add a lot, especially in Latvia.

For the below described works I spent about EUR 2,000 and two days in March 2023, while firms were asking me EUR 4,000 only for just installing grounds crews. There was one company offering to build me such a house for EUR 80,000. When I asked what is the reason for the price? The answer was classic - everything is expensive, inflation, quality construction materials etc. By the way, I bought the same highest quality C24 wood material for this construction site, which the company was saying now cost very expensive. Truth is - it doesn't!

Anyhow, without further ado:

Overall it took us about 2 years of pre-preparation works, owning land, and having electricity on it. Last, but not least we got a building permit for our holiday house at the end of January (2023) from the local construction board in just 3 days.

3D Modeling Our Country House (Scandinavian / Baltic style)

It was during Spring break at QSI Tbilisi school, we booked our flight to Latvia, rented a mid-size car, booked a nice hotel in Kuldīga and here you go:

At the end of March we arrived in Riga, and I went to the local DEPO store to buy first ground screws for testing purposes only:

Besides ground screws, I also bought a level, wires, gloves, metallic bars e.t.c

In the above picture, I have bought only 4 out of 24 planned ground screws, I did this test purchase just to make sure I will be able to get them inside the soil and that they will be sturdy enough to hold the upcoming frame house.

The next morning we traveled to our property. today it was also awaited the construction materials will arrive for the wood frame.

Ordered them from Pata lumber in Saldus

It took some little manpower to unload these 6-meter-long beams but didn't ask for much time, maybe 30 minutes. Cost of transportation EUR 70.

I hired a local neighbor to help me with installation work. Also, I bought a hand-ground drill (paying about EUR 24 at the local DEPO store) to make drilling much easier.

Most of the work we finished just two of us, just later my brother arrived and helped a little bit. But frankly this job is easily doable in a pair. It would be harder, but not impossible, trying to do it alone.

For the outer frame, I ordered 10x15x600cm beams, while for the inner supports 5x15x600cm boards

I decided to install step by step, instead of installing all ground screws, I opted for installing just enough to support the first beam, accordingly from which the other beams will be installed in level.

I kept pre-drilling holes for grounds crews and we continued installing outer side

In total it took us 2 days to install both ground screws and construct the wood frame for the foundation

In total 8 such metallic supports, at every angle

I bought the cheapest electric drill available at the local store in Kuldīga, paying about EUR 24 for it. A battery-powered drill would be a much smarter choice. Nevertheless, I was able to screw together all the frames.

I didn't finish installing all support, as we were running low on the metallic support clamps, but the idea is to install them every 50 cm

Last, but not least I covered all the construction with special wood preservative liquid, both sides are covered, I was just running low on the green liquid and on the other side applied transparent liquid.

Now it was quite a fulfilling Spring break in Latvia, in a matter of two working days I was able to install both ground screws and the frame for a floor for our upcoming holiday house.

It planned to resume construction works in Summer, by installing walls and roof (all together)

The total cost so far:

  • Ground Screws: EUR 805
  • Wood beams: EUR 1000
  • Support clamps and angles: EUR 100
  • Tools and other goodies: EUR 150
  • Wood preservative liquid: EUR 12

Total: EUR 2067

TerraM Crypto Hedge Fund Portfolio February 2023

| Investments | 32 seen

On December 2022, we minted 10,000 TerraM coins on the Solana network with an aim to raise $10,000 capital for options trades on Ethereum via the Deribit trading platform.

We are struggling of raising the capital, with myself still being the largest seed investor in the project yet. When launching the project I was somehow more optimistic and thought by this time of the year we will be, if not already fully funded, then at least halfway there. Not so easy.

No matter that, from the existing funds invested, the TerraM crypto hedge fund grow more than 16% month over month, reaching a total value of $1,631.28 at the end of February 2023.

From the closed option trades with Ethereum on the Deribit trading platform last month, we were able to book 0.0673 ETH / $111.58 USD profit.

Profit was distributed in form of additional TerraM coins to the token holders from the TerraM token address with balances larger than 20 TerraM. Any uninvested token profit was kept on the Deribit trading platform to increase buying power.

When losing a trade, we try to roll it out for a profit, sometimes it can take a week or two, sometimes longer, sometimes never. We don't book a loss, until we are in recovery mode, also we don’t book a profit if there is a profit in some particular week, but the trade itself yet is underwater.

The growth is encouraging, as the ETH coin actually slipped some -2.69% last month.

At the end of February 2023, The total ETH amount in recovery: was -0.6082 ETH

Since the inception of the TerraM crypto hedge fund, we have already made and distributed $585.72

Assets under TerraM management

Asset Count Rate Value (MoM) USDC 243.36 (+17.09) $1.00 $243.36 (+17.09) ETH 0.0709 (+0.04) $1,571.72 $111.43 (+62.21) BTC 0.00148472 (+0.00021386) $22,398.40 $33.26 (+3.87) SOL 0.483459038(+0.13611989) $23.91 $11.56 (+3.28) Tradeable ETH 0.766 (+0.0823) $1,571.72 $1,203.94 (+114.91)       $1,603.55 (+201.37)

At the end of February 2023 TerraM crypto hedge funds' total value was $1,603.55 (+201.37) if compared to January 2023)

Forecast  / Goals For March 2023

I've no idea where the price of Ethereum will head in March 2023, but I'm looking to grow TerraM crypto hedge fund value by at least 5%, which would ask for either additional investment or rock-solid performance.

When focusing on growing naturally. I will be happy if will manage to take a 5% yield in the month of march. On 16 hundred that would be about +$80

Choosing the right international school in Tbilisi can be a daunting task, especially if you are new to the city and want to ensure your child receives a quality education. With so many options available, it can be challenging to know where to start.

In this article, we will take a look at some of the key factors to consider when choosing an international school in Tbilisi, including academic programs, school culture, and extra-curricular activities.

First and foremost, it is important to consider the academic programs offered by international schools in Tbilisi. Ideally, you want to find a school that offers a comprehensive education that is both challenging and engaging. This typically includes core subjects such as mathematics, science, history, and English, as well as a variety of elective courses. In addition, many international schools in Tbilisi also offer advanced programs in areas such as music, art, and drama, allowing students to explore their interests and talents in a supportive and stimulating environment.

Another important factor to consider when choosing an international school in Tbilisi is the school culture. Ideally, you want to find a school that fosters a supportive and inclusive environment where students feel valued and respected. This can involve many different elements, such as the school’s values and mission, the behavior expectations of students and staff, and the overall atmosphere of the school. It is important to visit the schools you are considering to get a sense of their culture and see if it is a good fit for your child.

One of the key benefits of attending an international school in Tbilisi is the opportunity for students to be immersed in a multicultural environment. This can be especially beneficial for children who are new to Tbilisi or who are relocating from abroad. An international school can help students develop a global perspective, appreciate different cultures, and gain an understanding of the world beyond their own borders. It is also a great way to prepare students for a future in which they are likely to encounter and work with people from many different countries.

In addition to academic programs and school culture, it is also important to consider the extra-curricular activities offered by international schools in Tbilisi. Many schools offer a wide range of activities and clubs, from sports and games to music and drama, allowing students to explore their interests and develop new skills outside the classroom. These activities can also provide an important outlet for students to socialize with their peers and build meaningful relationships.

Another important factor to consider when choosing an international school in Tbilisi is the school’s facilities and resources. Ideally, you want to find a school that is well-equipped with modern and state-of-the-art facilities, including up-to-date technology, science labs, and classrooms. In addition, it is important to consider the school’s resources and support systems, such as libraries, counseling services, and support for students with learning differences.

The school has provided her with a great foundation for her education and she has learned a lot during her time there. However, we are now considering continuing her studies at British International School due to the significant difference in price.

The British International School offers a high-quality education and is well-regarded in the community. The school has a strong academic program and provides its students with a variety of extracurricular activities and opportunities for personal growth. The price of attending this school, however, is significantly lower than that of QSI Tbilisi, making it an attractive option for families who are looking for a more affordable option.

We believe that attending the British International School will allow our daughter to continue her education in a supportive and challenging environment. The school has a dedicated faculty and staff who are committed to helping students achieve their full potential. We are excited about the opportunity for our daughter to continue her education at this school and are confident that she will receive a well-rounded education that will prepare her for the future.

How to Make Traditional Georgian Khinkali: From Dough to Delicious

    | Food blogger | 77 seen

Just made my first batch of khinkali and it turned out to be a delightful culinary adventure! I got creative with the fillings and tried out some unique combinations like banana, salmon, cheese and of course, some more traditional flavors.

The result was a delicious burst of flavors that I can't wait to share with my friends and family. Who knew that making khinkali could be so much fun?

Khinkali is a traditional Georgian dumpling that has been enjoyed for centuries. These flavorful and juicy dumplings are often filled with meat, cheese, or mushrooms, and can be found in almost every corner of Georgia. If you're looking to try your hand at making khinkali, here is a step-by-step guide to help you create this delicious Georgian dish.

    Ingredients:

    • For the dough:

      • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
      • 1 tsp salt
      • 1 cup warm water
    • For the filling:

      • 1 lb ground beef or lamb
      • 1 onion, finely chopped
      • 1 tsp salt
      • 1 tsp black pepper
      • 1 tsp red pepper flakes
      • 1/2 cup water

    Instructions:

  • Start by making the dough. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Gradually add warm water, mixing with a wooden spoon until a smooth dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until it becomes soft and elastic.

  • Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rest for at least 30 minutes. This will allow the gluten to relax and make it easier to roll out.

  • While the dough is resting, prepare the filling. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef or lamb with the chopped onion, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Mix everything together until well combined.

  • Gradually add 1/2 cup of water to the filling mixture, stirring constantly until it becomes a smooth and slightly sticky consistency.

  • Now it's time to assemble the khinkali. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a thin sheet, about 1/8 inch thick. Using a round cookie cutter or a cup, cut out circles of dough, approximately 3-4 inches in diameter.

  • Place a tablespoon of filling in the center of each circle of dough. Take the edges of the dough and pinch them together at the top to form a pouch, leaving a small hole at the top.

  • Repeat this process with the rest of the dough circles and filling until you've used up all of the ingredients.

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Gently place the khinkali in the boiling water, making sure they don't stick together. Cook the dumplings for 8-10 minutes, or until they float to the top of the water and the dough is cooked through.

  • Using a slotted spoon, carefully remove the khinkali from the water and place them on a plate.

  • Serve hot with a side of Georgian sauce and enjoy!

  • Making khinkali may take some practice to get the perfect dough to filling ratio, but it's a fun and rewarding process that will result in a delicious and authentic Georgian dish.

Experiment with different fillings and flavors to create your own unique version of this beloved Georgian staple.

Enjoy your meal and don't forget to leave me a comment!

Finding the Perfect Country Manager for a Translation Company in Armenia: A Journey of 70 Resumes and 8 Candidates

    | Doing Business | 18 seen

Finding the right person for a job is not an easy task, and it becomes even more challenging when the job is a high-level position in a foreign country. Such was the case when our translation company decided to expand its operations to Armenia and needed a country manager to lead the team.

Over the past few weeks, I had the opportunity to be part of the recruitment and hiring process for this important position, and it was an exciting journey full of surprises.

It all started with the job advertisement that we posted on various job sites and social media channels (LinkedIn and Facebook). Within a few days, we received an overwhelming response of more than 70 resumes from people with different backgrounds, experiences, and education levels. It was interesting to see how diverse the candidates were, from eager salespersons to brilliant PhDs, each with a unique set of skills and qualities.

Our HR team then began the challenging task of screening the resumes and selecting the most promising candidates for an online interview. We conducted dozens of interviews over the next few days, and it was fascinating to see the different personalities and communication styles of the candidates. Some were confident and articulate, while others were more reserved but had impressive qualifications.

After careful consideration and discussion among the recruitment team, we narrowed down the list to eight candidates who showed the most potential for the position. It was time to take the next step and meet them in person.

We invited them to Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, and arranged a meeting at the cozy Marriott Hotel.

The day of the meeting was filled with excitement and anticipation. We were eager to meet the candidates face-to-face and see how they would fit into our company culture and work environment. Each candidate had a different approach and perspective on the challenges and opportunities that the job presented. We listened carefully to their ideas, asked challenging questions, and observed how they interacted with each other and the team.

After the meeting, it was time to make a decision. It was a tough call, as all candidates had their strengths and weaknesses, and it was not easy to choose the best fit for the job. However, we finally made a decision based on a combination of their qualifications, experience, communication skills, and cultural fit. It was a difficult but necessary step in the recruitment process.

Looking back, the journey of recruiting a country manager for our translation company in Armenia was an exciting and insightful experience. It was fascinating to see the diversity of candidates, their unique backgrounds and experiences, and how they tackled the challenges of the job. It was a reminder of the importance of recruitment, and how finding the right person for the job can have a significant impact on the success of the company.

How To Fix Missing Portfolio Tab Interactive Brokers TWS Trading Platform

    | Investments | 454 seen

Interactive Brokers is a damn good brokerage account where you can trade stocks, options, and futures, I've been amazed by this brokerage account for years.

Sometimes some glitch happens, but nothing too serious - one such glitch happening - is a missing Portfolio tab in Classic TWS.

I should note I have faced this on my MacBook only - might be or not be related to the TWS versions, not sure.

It happens when you log in to the TWS, there is no Portfolio tab:

In my case it was showing only Watchlist tab. I tried to add new Portfoio tab by pressing +, but nothing actually really worked as expected.

In the past I have spent good time figuring out how to get back Portfolio tab, sometimes I was able to find it and drag it in from the finder menu, clicking on the TWS icon and pressing - show all windows (sometimes Portfolio tab is in a seperate window in Mac)

anyhot, I found a much easir and simpler solution

From Account - > Portfolio Window

And it brings back Portfoio window under a seperate tab.

Hope it helps! If so, please leave a comment below!
